Wamberg

Wamberg 1.

On the bell tower of the church of Saint Anna, a sundial.

In 1720, Wamberg received his present church on the site of a previous building, which was consecrated the following year on September 11, 1721, by Prince-Bishop Johann Franz Eckher von Kapfing and Liechteneck. The high altar with an Anna Selbdritt depiction was created by the sculptor Andreas Onich from Wamber, the barrel painting work was done by the Mittenwald craftsman Joseph Dieffenbrunner. There is a picture of the Holy Family above the high altar. On the sides are figures of Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian, Saint Notburga and Saint Isidore in costumes of that time.

At the Bavarian State Archives online, you can see a photo of this sundial before its present lüftlmalerei, taken some time between 1920 and 1930 by August Beckert.
