A street by street guide to the fresco and facade paintings in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district
Almhüttenweg
There are two great things about hiking around Garmisch-Partenkirchen: (1) the spectacular views, and (2) at the crest and summit of every trail, there is an AlmHütte serving delicious local food and drink.
Almhüttenweg provides a beautiful opportunity to experience both.
Turn off Maximilianstraße in Garmisch at the Ritter-von-Halt Stadium to find this short uphill street. A hiking trail branches off and leads to the alpine hut on the Maximilianshöhe, for which this street was originally named in 1927. The name goes back to an alpine hut opened there in 1899 by contract coachman Andreas Sailer, who was initially only allowed to serve guests milk and coffee.
Gorgeously situated at the start of a hiking trail, Almhüttenweg 6 is the only house on this very short street with any lüftlmalerei — fensterumrahmungen and a Patrona Bavaria.
