Kleinfeldstraße

On the wall of Kleinfeldstraße 33, “Haus Sonnenblick,” — or “House Sun View,” — a sundial with a castle in the center painted by Heinrich Bickel in 1936.1

Kleinfeldstraße 35, two old lüftlmalerei:

The first, a man with a rifle beside a woman.  The banner beneath them reads, “Werdenfelser people in Sunday dress around 1800.”2

The second, about a woman giving the postman a letter for her love. The banner beneath reads a Bavarian phrase, “Schwaga schau i hätt a Bitt. Nimm mir do de Botschaft mit. Liaba guada Postillen. gib’s meim Schatz, du kennst’n schon”.

According to Hermann Bierl, in his book Garmisch-Partenkirchen und seine Lüftlmalereien (2020), these pictures were painted by an artist named “Martl”.3

As this picture from Adrian von Riedl’s 1986 book, Werdenfelser Stiche-Chronik: Eine Reise durch Alt-Werdenfels, shows, the Lüftlmalerei on the left is a copy of a watercolor originally painted around the year 1800 attributed to the artist Ludwig Neureuther (1770-1832).4 

A copy of his painting had been turned into a lithograph and was circulated on a popular postcard.
