Hauptstraße 19.

While the signature under this sgraffito only lists “MARCHLOWITZ” in “1959,” Hermann Bierl notes in his book, Garmisch-Partenkirchen und seine Lüftlmalereien (2002), that this image was first made by “Hitzberger” and subsequently restored by Kurt Marchlowitz.1

Hauptstraße 25, the “Advocaten Haus,” with legal themed lüftlmalerei advertising the lawyers’ office there.

Blind justice.

Hauptstraße 27, “Gästehaus Sonnenschein,” or “Guest House Sunshine,” has an appropriately themed lüftlmalerei of a sun shining down on Hauptstraße painted by Stephan Pfeffer.

In 2019-2020, the nearby Saint Irmengard Catholic School was renovated and an addition was added.  With all that construction, the building that had been at Hauptstraße 43 was razed.

On the gable facing the street, however, had been a lüftlmalerei by Sebastian Pfeffer which concisely illustrated the religious and political history of the region.

Now its gone.

Hauptstraße 85, “Haus Mittermaier,” home to Biermaier Sports Clothing, is literally covered in unconventional sports themed lüftlmalerei painted by Christoph Hodgson in 1989.

Hauptstraße 86.

Lüftlmalerei of Henry II, Duke of Bavaria, by August Maninger.

Henry II (951 – 995), called “The Wrangler” or “The Quarrelsome” (German: Heinrich der Zänker), a member of the German royal Ottonian dynasty, held the title of Duke of Bavaria from 955 to 976, and that title again as well as Duke of Carinthia from 989 to 995.
